A Friendly Reminder…

This is just a friendly reminder, but I never take on projects when I’m busy working on other things.

The art that I have been posting on Twitter and a few of my art sites for other people are for past owed favors and trades. I’m also working on improving my work with personal projects, as I’m still working out all the rust from my little over a year long hiatus.

For the time being, I humbly request that you guys please stop asking me about commissions, as I am currently not taking them.
If and when I open up for commissions, I will make a very public post about it. (Those of you who I know that want to work with me will get a personal message from me as well.)

Do I know if/when I’m opening for commissions?
Absolutely not. Because my job is very busy and intensive, I never know when I have free time to take on extra work. I do not like being perceived as unreliable, and thus I refuse to work when I know I can not complete the work expected of me. This, among the other reasons above, is why I have not opened up for commissions.

I hope this is understandable, fair, and clears up any misunderstandings that I have been receiving recently about my current content on Twitter and Facebook. Thank you all for reading this, and I sincerely hope you all have a great day.

HAPPINESS

happiness_watermarkWOW! IT HAS BEEN A WHILE!
So, so sorry that I’ve disappeared for quite a long time! Between work and life stuffs, I haven’t time nor energy for artwork, so I’ve been away for about a year.

I’m still not fully back (can’t take commissions), but at the very least I wanted to start arting for myself again to work out all the rust I’ve accumulated since I’ve been away. My post today was inspired by a cute dog photo I saw on my Facebook feed one day:

Originally this wasn’t going to be a new version of feral Kaze that has been floating around in my head for months, but once I started to flesh this piece out, I just knew I had to draw feral Kaze in one of her more “canine” moments. (She is part husky after all. LOL!)

UPDATE: COMMISSIONS STILL CLOSED!

Hello everyone! 😀

Just checking in, as I have been getting a lot of Facebook messages and Tweets asking when/if I’ll be able to take commissions again. Although I have been doing my best to not respond per orders by the New York State Department of Labor, it makes my heart absolutely sick when I can’t answer your questions or inquiries. So, I have been responding by linking back to the article I wrote back in February about this whole issue as a kind of way to let you guys know that, unfortunately, I can not, under any circumstances, take on your project. This is not meant to be seen as rude or uncaring, but I literally can not talk about art commissions or projects with you guys, otherwise I could get my wages cut.

Judging by the tone of this blog post, you can already infer that, yes, the shared work program is still in effect, and, yes, I have absolutely no idea when I will no longer be in the program.

This whole situation is as frustrating to me as it is to you, so please bare with me as I go through this. Please do not try to bribe me into working with you, or try to scheme up some way to get me to start  on a project with you and pay me later. It absolutely can not, and will not work, and I will not risk my full-time job because you need a project done. I’m sorry. It just can’t be done that way. 😦

If I could work on art with others, I absolutely would, as I miss working on commissions, and I miss the motivation that working with others on artwork has given me over the years. I’ve tried my hand at drawing and making art for myself just to keep myself from getting rusty, but every time I pick up the tablet pen, I can’t seem to motivate myself to finish a project. I’m not exactly sure why that is, but I’m working through it personally through self-reflection.

I hate to leave this blog post on a sour note, so I’ll tell you guys what I have been doing in my free time. Though there are still the occasional video games,  I’ve been mostly trying my hand at various craft projects. Most importantly, I completed a partial fursuit of a border collie  with my fellow artist/costume maker friend Lacey (Crimes). It turned out super well, and was seen at UB Con 2016 on Saturday. I’ve also caught the cosplay bug from UB Con, so I put together a Cat Noir (Miraculous Ladybug) cosplay for Halloween or if I go to another local convention this summer. I don’t have any pictures of it as of yet, but when I do, they’ll be on my Instagram.

Anyway, work calls! Thank you very much, again, for the support, and I hope to talk to you guys soon! 🙂

COMMISSIONS CLOSED: All of 2016, and Possibly Beyond

Hello everyone! 😀

Since November of 2015, I’ve been working full time for a great small company doing work on their website, Amazon sales, and creating graphics for them.

Unfortunately, they have recently fallen on hard times, and had to seek help from the state. Luckily, they were able to snag a spot in a shared work program. This program allows workers who have had their hours cut due to company hardship to collect a slight amount of unemployment for one day (about 20% of the income they would have made had they been able to work that day).

The catch: if you work for ANYONE ELSE, including yourself, during the time that you are in the program, your benefits get lessened or terminated.

Because my art business is registered with the government as a DBA, I had to report this while filing the paperwork, and had to also report that I had not received paid work since May 26, 2015, and I did not plan on continuing to work for myself anytime soon.

So, in short, because of this benefits program, I can not, under any conditions, accept commissions for the entirety of 2016, and maybe not at all, as long as this program is in effect.

I apologize for this, as some of you guys have been coming to me with projects and I’ve had to turn them away for personal or business reasons, but I do appreciate the support that you guys have given me. Maybe this will give me a chance to practice on my own again, and when I’m able to take commissions, I will be a better, more well rounded artist. 🙂

Thank you very much for your continued support, and have a wonderful day! 🙂

UPDATE:
Received a letter today on NYS Department of Labor letterhead. According to this, even talking to inquiring clients about potential work is considered work, whether there is money exchanged or not.
12744069_10153455854307358_712384519438860126_n
Because of this, I will no longer be answering e-mails, messages, letters, or texts in regards to commissions as I legally can not without possibly forfeiting my benefits.

Please respect this. Thank you.

Commissions NOT Opening in January 2016

Hello everyone! 🙂

I’m sure some of you are upset by the title of this article, but allow me to explain. The reason why I’m not opening for commissions as originally planned is due to various stresses in my life currently, as well as needing to help my new job with inventory in January.

As some of you know, around January or February is when most retail stores have an inventory company come in to take inventory for tax purposes. Well, my company doesn’t hire an outside company to do this. We do it all by hand, meaning that I will be having some long days, and having to travel to various locations around Western New York to do inventory. It’s going to be exhausting, and having to deal with commissions on top of that is just going to stress me out.

Speaking of stressing out, this decision to not open for commissions in January has been plaguing me for a while. I know a lot of my previous clients and some of my fans really want a chance to commission me since I’ve been hiatus now for almost a year, but I don’t think the timing is right just yet. I just got into this new job, which I’m still adjusting to, and I also now have weekends off for the first time in about 6 years. I’ve been trying my best to enjoy my “me” time, and having that taken away to do outside work is not going to be good for my mental health right now.

So, I will say this: There is no definite time at which I plan on opening for commissions, as of right now. I will probably have limited, announced openings (via WordPress, Facebook, Twitter, and FA) when I feel as if I can handle that kind of work. I’ve also considered doing Your Character Here (YCH) auctions when I feel up to working on artwork, but we’ll see. Also, sketch streams has been a thought of mine lately as well. Again, we’ll see.

Apologies for this. I just hope everyone understands. If you have any questions, or want to propose a project for the future, please feel free to contact me via my contact page, or message me via Facebook.

Thank you very much, and hope everyone has a wonderful holiday season! 🙂

12-7-15: Life Update

Hello everyone! 😀

Long time, no talk.
Considering the amount of stuff that has happened in my life right now, I thought I should update my blog. I finally got hired for my first full-time career job in my field. I am now working for a local multi-store retailer helping them with their online store, and also producing all their graphics design projects, such as advertising banners and posters. So far it’s been super amazing, and I feel so very, very lucky to have acquired this position. It’s been a long time coming for me, as I have been working multiple part-time jobs at the same time since 2011, with me working 60 hours a week at one point. It’s truly wonderful to finally be down to a Monday-Friday, 40 hour work week job to where I can have weekends to myself and be able to work on my very much ignored crafting projects and social life.

However, with all this good stuff, there is also some bad. Because I have been working harsh working hours for so long, my mental health is not well. It’s fairly well known now that I have bipolar II disorder with comorbid anxiety, but I’ve found that, even though I have all this extra time to do things I enjoy, I find myself not wanting to do anything but sleep. Maybe this is because my body is starting to catch up to me and it is realizing that I can finally rest so it’s shutting down, but it’s starting to worry me a bit. It’s really starting to make me question as to whether or not I can truly open up for commissions as of January 2016, or if I need to postpone that a little bit longer so my body and mind can catch up. I guess I will just update you guys as I feel as if I can make a definite decision. (After all, I only had my first full weekend off last weekend, so it’s too early to tell.)

Well, that’s all for me for now, as I need to get to work. Hope to see you guys in 2016! 🙂

9-2-15: Of Hard Drive Crashes and Updated TOS

Hello everyone! 😀

Well, I wish I was coming to you all with good news, but, alas, it is only bittersweet. Last week, I had a major, sudden hard drive crash. This stunned me, as I usually took every precaution to prevent something like this from happening, but Sudden Hard Drive Death can strike at any time, so I guess I just got “lucky”. Since then, I have ordered and installed two drives: one solid-state drive, and one mechanical/solid state hybrid drive. Both of which are up and running (for the most part), but, unfortunately again for me, as I was migrating data from my back up drive last night, I discovered that I had not backed up any data since mid-March 2015, around when I started my current job. This frustrated me horribly, as I am usually very obsessive about my data back ups, but considering I have been so busy since I acquired my new job, I must have gotten forgetful about my data back ups. Because of this data loss, I have amended my Terms of Service agreement for my commission work (https://kazekatakage.wordpress.com/commission-information/) to reflect a disclaimer about my data storage and retention:

***DATA STORAGE AND RETENTION DISCLAIMER: I am usually good about keeping multiple copies and back ups of my completed work, but the commissioner/client should NOT expect me, the aritst, to keep back ups and copies of the completed work at all times. The commissioner/client should take full responsibility for all work copies, and should make back ups/prints of their work to prevent data loss. Once the work leaves my hands and transfers to the commissioner/client, I can no longer take responsibility for having a copy of the work if a commissioner/client were to lose their original copies. (This amendment comes after I had a major, sudden hard drive crash in late August 2015, and lost work from mid-March 2015 to August 2015. I do apologize greatly for this, but situations like these happen sometimes when working with digital works.)

This isn’t to say that if you were to contact me that I wouldn’t have your work still saved, but it shouldn’t be expected that I, an artist and not a data storage server, should be expected to keep your work at all times. After all, data loss does happen when dealing with digital work, and I should not be dinged for not having the work that I completed months prior.

That being said, I am still incredibly frustrated with myself and my machine as I keep finding more things to upset me about this whole process. But, as they say, you gotta keep moving forward to make progress.

Life Update: 8/7/15

Hello everyone! 😀

I know I haven’t posted anything in a while, and I apologize. Again, life has gotten busy for me, and I’m trying to refocus a little bit.

Since I graduated college about 2 years ago with a BA in Media Studies, a Game Studies certificate, and a minor in Computer Science, I have still yet to find a full time job, let alone a full time job in my field. About 6 months ago, I decided to go to a temp agency for help to try to get my foot in the door to a full time job, since it seemed that my then 6 years of various work experience (not including my free lance work) and my college education didn’t seem to get me anywhere other than part time sales/customer service/food service/retail jobs, which I took on while I was in college and never intended on making them my career. Since then, I have been working two jobs: my full time, contract job placement (which I keep applying to as positions open up so I can possibly become permanent full time), and my last remaining favorite retail job on the weekends as a back up just in case I don’t make the permanent cut. My contract job isn’t in my field of study, but it is low stress and it pays reasonably well, two things that I require to stay happy and sane. It is because of this career refocusing that I have closed commissions, and are going to continue to have them closed until I finally get a full time position so I can refocus again and work on art on the side until I get a good enough portfolio to where I can actually achieve my dream of becoming an industry artist.

That being said, once I am able to focus on art again, I’d like to do some rebranding. Obviously I won’t be able to change my official business name, but I’d like to rebrand myself online (maybe abbrevating myself as “KBK”, as it rolls off the tongue, is easy to pronounce, and still gives me a similar branding to what I’ve been using since I was a teen), and either migrate to a better free website (ex. WiX), or finally take the plunge, buy some server space, and finally code my own website. (I know HTML and CSS so I’m sure with a little brushing up, I could make a pretty decent, better organized website.) I’d also like to get into game creation, as I’ve been hoarding game creation software as it becomes available via Humble Bundle (https://www.humblebundle.com/). I might also start producing more videos for my YouTube channel (http://www.youtube.com/user/kazebkatakage) in the form of “Let’s Plays” or “Let’s Draw”, as the only things I’ve been uploading in recent years have been recordings of my very sporadic art streams, videos of my pets, and very few animations. I already have my YouTube channel set up to generate revenue, so it would be a shame not to utilize it more. Addtionally, I’d like to also make more merchandise for my Society6 (https://society6.com/kazekatakage) and Redbubble (http://www.redbubble.com/people/kazekatakage) stores. (Mainly Society6 as they give me a lot of promotional options I can use to attract more customers and generate greater revenue.)

Basically, I have a lot of ideas that I want to pursue, but not a lot of time to do so at the moment.

So, for now, I’ve just been working as much as I can to make a great impression on my bosses at my contract job, and relaxing with some video games. Particularly, I’ve been playing a lot of Final Fantasy XIV (http://www.finalfantasyxiv.com/) in what little free time I have with my boyfriend and friends. It’s been pretty fun, and if you’d like to join me, I’m on the server Hyperion, and my character name is Kaze Katakage. 🙂

Well, that’s all for now! Any questions or comments, please leave them in the comments section below and I will respond. Thank you for the ever continuing support, and I hope to see everyone soon!

(P.S. If you’re curious, I’ve been uploading doodles and various other things to my Facebook (http://www.facebook.com/KazeBreezeKatakage), Instagram (@kazekatakage), and Twitter (http://twitter.com/kaze_katakage) accounts if you’d still like to see some of my latest work.)

Markipillar

Markipillar_watermarkSo, this one has a story behind it.

I started watching Markipiler’s YouTube channel around a year ago, mostly because I was bored, lonely, and looking for some information on Five Nights at Freddy’s. Little did I know that I would become attached to Mark and his lovely, positive wisdoms. He has inspired me to continue to pursue what I love, despite my ever present depression and lack of motivation to continue. (I’m yet another hard working young person who made it through 4 years of college with an art degree and is not professionally working in their field because of lack of jobs and capital to be able to travel to where the jobs are.)

The idea for “Markipillar” came into my head when I first started watching Markiplier’s YouTube channel. I commonly mispronounce names, so I used to say his name as “Markipillar”. From then on, I would always imagine Markiplier in a caterpillar sleepingbag, pretending to be a caterpillar, and speaking similar positive wisdoms like he usually does. It made me giggle, and helped me get through my sad days.

Thank you, Markimoo. Continue to do what you do. ❤
