COMMISSIONS CLOSED: All of 2016, and Possibly Beyond

Hello everyone! 😀

Since November of 2015, I’ve been working full time for a great small company doing work on their website, Amazon sales, and creating graphics for them.

Unfortunately, they have recently fallen on hard times, and had to seek help from the state. Luckily, they were able to snag a spot in a shared work program. This program allows workers who have had their hours cut due to company hardship to collect a slight amount of unemployment for one day (about 20% of the income they would have made had they been able to work that day).

The catch: if you work for ANYONE ELSE, including yourself, during the time that you are in the program, your benefits get lessened or terminated.

Because my art business is registered with the government as a DBA, I had to report this while filing the paperwork, and had to also report that I had not received paid work since May 26, 2015, and I did not plan on continuing to work for myself anytime soon.

So, in short, because of this benefits program, I can not, under any conditions, accept commissions for the entirety of 2016, and maybe not at all, as long as this program is in effect.

I apologize for this, as some of you guys have been coming to me with projects and I’ve had to turn them away for personal or business reasons, but I do appreciate the support that you guys have given me. Maybe this will give me a chance to practice on my own again, and when I’m able to take commissions, I will be a better, more well rounded artist. 🙂

Thank you very much for your continued support, and have a wonderful day! 🙂

Received a letter today on NYS Department of Labor letterhead. According to this, even talking to inquiring clients about potential work is considered work, whether there is money exchanged or not.
Because of this, I will no longer be answering e-mails, messages, letters, or texts in regards to commissions as I legally can not without possibly forfeiting my benefits.

Please respect this. Thank you.

Commissions NOT Opening in January 2016

Hello everyone! 🙂

I’m sure some of you are upset by the title of this article, but allow me to explain. The reason why I’m not opening for commissions as originally planned is due to various stresses in my life currently, as well as needing to help my new job with inventory in January.

As some of you know, around January or February is when most retail stores have an inventory company come in to take inventory for tax purposes. Well, my company doesn’t hire an outside company to do this. We do it all by hand, meaning that I will be having some long days, and having to travel to various locations around Western New York to do inventory. It’s going to be exhausting, and having to deal with commissions on top of that is just going to stress me out.

Speaking of stressing out, this decision to not open for commissions in January has been plaguing me for a while. I know a lot of my previous clients and some of my fans really want a chance to commission me since I’ve been hiatus now for almost a year, but I don’t think the timing is right just yet. I just got into this new job, which I’m still adjusting to, and I also now have weekends off for the first time in about 6 years. I’ve been trying my best to enjoy my “me” time, and having that taken away to do outside work is not going to be good for my mental health right now.

So, I will say this: There is no definite time at which I plan on opening for commissions, as of right now. I will probably have limited, announced openings (via WordPress, Facebook, Twitter, and FA) when I feel as if I can handle that kind of work. I’ve also considered doing Your Character Here (YCH) auctions when I feel up to working on artwork, but we’ll see. Also, sketch streams has been a thought of mine lately as well. Again, we’ll see.

Apologies for this. I just hope everyone understands. If you have any questions, or want to propose a project for the future, please feel free to contact me via my contact page, or message me via Facebook.

Thank you very much, and hope everyone has a wonderful holiday season! 🙂

12-7-15: Life Update

Hello everyone! 😀

Long time, no talk.
Considering the amount of stuff that has happened in my life right now, I thought I should update my blog. I finally got hired for my first full-time career job in my field. I am now working for a local multi-store retailer helping them with their online store, and also producing all their graphics design projects, such as advertising banners and posters. So far it’s been super amazing, and I feel so very, very lucky to have acquired this position. It’s been a long time coming for me, as I have been working multiple part-time jobs at the same time since 2011, with me working 60 hours a week at one point. It’s truly wonderful to finally be down to a Monday-Friday, 40 hour work week job to where I can have weekends to myself and be able to work on my very much ignored crafting projects and social life.

However, with all this good stuff, there is also some bad. Because I have been working harsh working hours for so long, my mental health is not well. It’s fairly well known now that I have bipolar II disorder with comorbid anxiety, but I’ve found that, even though I have all this extra time to do things I enjoy, I find myself not wanting to do anything but sleep. Maybe this is because my body is starting to catch up to me and it is realizing that I can finally rest so it’s shutting down, but it’s starting to worry me a bit. It’s really starting to make me question as to whether or not I can truly open up for commissions as of January 2016, or if I need to postpone that a little bit longer so my body and mind can catch up. I guess I will just update you guys as I feel as if I can make a definite decision. (After all, I only had my first full weekend off last weekend, so it’s too early to tell.)

Well, that’s all for me for now, as I need to get to work. Hope to see you guys in 2016! 🙂
